Baltimore Equals New York City in Homicides

I often joked about this, but I really never thought this day would happen.

On August 16, both New York and Baltimore had 208 murders. Baltimore has added another 8 since then. I'm not certain about NYC. New York City has 7.5 million more residents than Charm City.

We're just more ambitious than those yankees in the Big Apple...

I'll say. More productive, too.
Reminds me a joke I've never heard, "How many New Yorkers does it take to kill somebody?" Apparently 13 for every Baltimorean that can get the job done.

Peter,

Is this a direct result of de-policing based on the force's perception of minimal public support and diminished moral? I don't know why with today's environment in Baltimore that anyone would raise their hand and take their oath...

If I'm a copper in Baltimore trying to get to retirement today, I handle my calls for service, make no traffic stops, no ped checks, and minimize contacts... Bad policing but good self-preservation in a toxic environment..
